The reeds should be placed in the cup during rehearsals and performances. It is advisable to soak oboe reeds for 2 to 4 minutes. Very use full in school's and at concerts where it can be hard to find water.
I put a 1/2 inch of water with a drop of mouth wash in the water to help keep any bacteria from growing.
You should replace the water often.
